Doctor Broke You Daughters Heart .. Finding Ways To Live With Cat Allergies

Now that the doctor has diagnosed your daughter with cat allergies and told you to get rid of it you are asking yourself ” how can I do this”. Fluffy is a part of the family.

Before you try to find Your Cat a new home try cleaning up some of the pet dander and see how she does. In some cases it is necessary to remove the cat from the home but almost 1/3 of the people with pet allergies keep one in their home so there may be hope for you.

The problem with pet dander, especially Cats, is dander is very light, sticky and small. As it floats through the air pet dander will stick to anything and everything it comes in contact with. Tests have shown high concentrations of pet dander on walls, ceilings, paintings, curtains, lamp shades and other places within the home. The dander from a pet can hang around long after the cat is gone. Several years in fact.

First thing you need to do is look around your home and pick out everything that we consider a dust, dirt and allergy catcher. Things like carpet, rugs, drapes, upholstered furniture, bed spreads stuffed toys, etc. These are the things that hold allergens and they need to be removed or cleaned.

Start with the carpet. If it can be removed do it. It will make life so much better for any allergy or asthma suffers. If not then make sure you vacuum every few days, especially the bedroom, and have it cleaned a couple of times a year. There are several anti allergen products on the market that can help, we recommend Allersearch Xmite carpet treatment, that can be applied directly to the carpet to neutralize the effects of cat dander.

If you have drapes you need to either wash them or get rid of them and replace them with blinds. The other thing you need to do is vacuum, yes you can vacuum drapes, them using the small brush attachment on your vacuum. Same goes for upholster furniture. Vacuum it and use a product like Allerserach ADMS anti allergen spray. It does not hurt to have it cleaned when you do the carpets.

Wipe down the walls with a swiffer. You will be amazed how dirty your walls are. Don’t try to do the ceilings. You could hurt yourself.  Regularly dust all furniture and appliances including the top of the fridge. Try using an old tee shirt and just toss it in the wash when you are done.

If the cat sleeps on the bed the covers and sheets must be washed in hot water or with Allersearch Allergen wash to remove the dander. The best thing to do is keep the cats out of the bedroom but I know that never works in our house. Also you need to wash or treat the stuffed toys. Some can be washed others may be better off being sprayed. We did both in our house.

In some cases it helps to put a good HEPA air cleaner in the bedroom so the allergens floating around don’t get a chance to stick.

As far as the cat itself, you can give a bath and or use Allerpet C solution. I have never had a cat that wanted to get close to water and if they did they ended up taking the skin off my arms. We used the allerpet C weekly to remove the allergens from the dander and have had no problems. The cat does not mind it when we rub it in and it does not hurt them in any way.

I know this looks like a lot to do but it’s worth a try. Our children have grown up with cats and while one was slightly allergic, there is no way we would have gotten rid of a single cat. My daughter never would have forgiven me.

Let me know how it goes.

 Swampmeet: A Gator Counting Book

Swampmeet: A Gator Counting Book

$125.98

Hundreds of thousands of Gator fans celebrate their heritage and tradition in nearly every form–from t-shirts to touchdowns, to stuffed toys and #11 jerseys. Unfortunately all those fans have had a void in their hunt for Gator gear, they’ve lacked a tactile way to pass no great Gator moments of history to their kids, until now. SWAMPMEET: A Gator counting Book and ABC’s: Albert’s Alligator Alphabet not only give children a fun way to learn their ABC’s and 123’s but also help establish an early bond between parents and children through the fun of being a college sports fan. The illustrated, adorable, and always grinning Gator is cute enough for kids of all ages, and mischievous enough to cause adults to enjoy his amusing antics over SEC and longtime rivals. Most of all the books represent the fun-loving but competitive spirit of 90,000+ fans who pour into Ben Hill Griffin Stadium for each and every home game–from the Gator mascot cooking the Kitty-Cats of Kentucky, LSU and Auburn for a tailgate snack to the beatification of Steve Spurrier in a re-creation of the Sistine Chapel mural. These books will make the perfect gift anytime of the year for Gator and baby Gator fans alike.
