California Natural Dry Cat Food – Advantages and Drawbacks

Though California Natural Cat Food contains many healthy and natural ingredients, it has many advantages and drawbacks as well. However, California Natural ranks better when compared with other dry cat foods.

Ingredients
Its dry cat food formula has healthy ingredients with minimal additives. The ingredients include Chicken, Brown Rice, Chicken Meal, Chicken Fat, Sunflower Oil, Natural Flavors, Flaxseed, Potassium Chloride, Vitamins, Taurine, Minerals, Rosemary Extract, Dl-Methionine, Herring, Barley, Herring Meal, Oatmeal, Chicken Fat, Sweet Potatoes and Herring oil.

Advantages
California Natural Dry Cat Food includes natural and healthy ingredients with the first ingredient as meat. They don’t contain allergens products like wheat, soy and corn which are also not digestible to the Cats. As these foods are preserved with rosemary extract which is safe and effective, they last for a longer period without any loss in quality.

There are two types of California Natural Cat Foods: California Natural Chicken & Brown Rice Dry Cat and Kitten Food and California Natural Herring and Sweet Potato Dry Cat Food. These both formulas use digestible grains. As cats are obligate carnivorous animals, they don’t need any type of vegetable matter in their foods. However, their food must contain some amount of carbohydrates because without it, the kibble couldn’t be ripe into the hard, small pieces characteristic of cat food.

Drawbacks
The only drawback of California natural dry cat food is that it contains large amount of carbohydrates and grains, even more than the actual requirement. Brown rice is digestible to cats but white rice is not so digestible and provides less dietary fiber. The amount of barley is more than oatmeal in this food though oatmeal is more beneficial than barley. Sunflower oil is also less desirable cat food ingredient as it may disturb the balance of omega fatty acids in their diets.

The both type of dry cat food of California Natural contains chicken which is also a bad aspect as some cats are highly allergic to chickens. They don’t have any alternative for the cats that are allergic to chickens.
